Pre-Marital Counseling
c

To the Couple Considering Marriage

Congratulations!  You are moving toward one of the most wonderful and challenging of human endeavors.  I wish you every possibility of bliss and contentment!  And, I’m ready to help you look for ways to make it happen.

We in the religious community feel a responsibility to help couples get the best start that they can.  Against the backdrop of a high divorce rate in El Paso county (almost 70%!) we know that we need to keep our marriages in a special focus.  As a result, your pastor may be encouraging you to get some pre-marital counseling to help you on your way.

Pre-Marital Counseling:

I do three sessions that are 50 minutes long.  The cost is $75 dollars each, or $225 for the three total.  Scheduling depends on your availability, as well as, mine.  I’m usually in the office between noon and 7:00 pm, M, W, F.

The intent of pre-marital counseling is preparation.  It’s not about making a judgment about your readiness to marry.  That’s your job.

Every marriage has problems to face.  That’s part of the development over the years of a couple’s maturity.  It’s just the way it works.  Let’s call these problems, “potholes in the road.”  Our job together in pre-martial counseling is to look ahead and see if we can identify some potential potholes in the road ahead.  If we don’t find any that means we haven’t done our job.

I have a list of questions I will ask.  Most of the material you will have been over already together.  Hopefully, we’ll find a few things you haven’t spoken of.  And, if something interesting comes up, we will take a side trip to check it out.

The Worst Part about Pre-Marital Counseling:

The worst part is just coming through the door of my office the first time.  That’s it.  It gets a whole lot easier after that!  Oh…finding my office is a little challenging, too.

Centered Life is located in First United Methodist Church downtown,, 420 N. Nevada.  Park in the parking lot off St.Vrain Avenue.  The North door is the only one open.

Our offices are in the extreme South end of the church in Room 138 South.  Walk in to the Welcome Desk, then, just follow the wall signs go Centered Life.
